PlaceSense worked with the Essex County Public Health Department and the Town of Elizabethtown to identify existing assets, opportunities, and possible constraints for pedestrian and bicycle road and multi-use paths/trails within the town. An Active Living Strategy was drafted to guide planning, development, and operations of existing and future pedestrian, bicycle and multi-use and multi-modal transportation infrastructure in Elizabethtown. The strategy included a detailed inventory of downtown sidewalks and crosswalks, as well as updated information on the miles of trails on public property in Elizabethtown. It also included recommendations for improving or extending sidewalks, using town land for recreation, installing signs to increase awareness of outdoor recreation opportunities, and providing designated parking areas to increase recreational access to town land.
